Moisturisers

Sixteen moisturisers is a lot to choose from, and the usual shortcut — pick by your age — is the wrong one. Start with texture, because that is what decides whether you will actually use it every day.

The fragrance question

Fragrance is the most common cause of contact reaction in cosmetics, and a moisturiser is the product you leave on your face longest. Three of ours are fragrance free — NUTRISSA™, SERAVIA™ and NOCTURNIS™ — and every product page here carries the full INCI list, so you can check any of the others yourself rather than take our word for it.

Do you need a day one and a night one?

No. One comfortable moisturiser used twice a day, with sunscreen over it in the morning, is a complete routine. A second, richer cream at night is an upgrade, not a requirement — and it is the one place where a formula gets eight uninterrupted hours, which is why the night creams are worth a look once the basics are settled.
