What the science says
Aloe vera leaf juice — In research on creams, aloe vera extract raised the water content of the outermost skin layer compared with the same cream without aloe. [1]
Sodium PCA — Research on the skin's natural moisturising factor (NMF), a mix of small water-binding molecules, found that it helps the outermost layer hold water; sodium PCA is a water-binding molecule of this kind. [2]
Glycerin — A humectant that improves hydration of the outermost skin layer and helps maintain softness and suppleness. [3]
The cited studies looked at aloe, the skin's natural moisturising factor and glycerin, not at this gel. Here, organic aloe leaf juice is the first ingredient, glycerin is fourth and sodium PCA fifth. White tea, sage and the hyaluronic acids come after the fragrance, in small amounts, and we claim no visible effect from them. Lactic acid is in a tiny amount to adjust pH, not as an exfoliant.
