What the science says
Salicylic acid — Research on hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid) found they loosen the bonds between dead flakes on the skin's surface so they shed more evenly, for smoother-looking skin. Used over time they can make skin more sensitive to the sun, so daily sunscreen is advised. [1]
Glycerin — Research on glycerin found it improves hydration of the outermost skin layer, the skin's moisture barrier and its softness and suppleness, and that it is especially helpful in dry, cold conditions. [2]
The cited review covers hydroxy acids in general, not our toner. Salicylic acid sits ninth in our formula and we do not state a concentration; we present it only for loosening dead flakes on the surface. Alcohol is second, which gives the quick-drying feel; glycerin and betaine balance it. We make no claim about shrinking pores or controlling shine, although the pack uses such words. Salicylic acid can increase sun sensitivity, so wear sunscreen daily.
