What the science says
Glycerin — Research on glycerin found it improves hydration of the outermost skin layer, the skin's moisture barrier and its softness and suppleness, and that it is especially helpful in dry, cold conditions. [1]
Sodium PCA — Research describes how the outermost skin layer holds water thanks to its lipids and the natural moisturising factor (NMF), a mix of small water-binding molecules made by the skin itself; when that hydration drops, skin turns dry and flaky. Sodium PCA is one of these building blocks. [2]
The cited research looks at glycerin and the skin's natural moisturising factor in general, not at our wash; in a rinse-off cleanser they stay on the skin only briefly. Coco-glucoside and cocamidopropyl betaine are mild coconut-derived cleansing agents near the top of the formula. We quote no study for mate leaf, Iceland moss or juniper callus extracts. Lactic acid at position 9 is there to adjust pH, and we make no exfoliating claim. The pack's words about breakouts and blemishes are not claims we make.
