What the science says
Alpha-arbutin — A review of ingredients already used in cosmetics for the look of dark spots lists arbutin among them; most of these act on tyrosinase, the key enzyme in pigment formation, and the authors note that their effect is moderate. [1]
Glycerin — Research on glycerin found it improves hydration of the outermost skin layer, the skin's moisture barrier and its softness and suppleness, and that it is especially helpful in dry, cold conditions. [2]
The cited review names arbutin; alpha-arbutin is a related form, and we make no claim beyond the look of dark spots and uneven tone, which the review itself calls moderate. Alpha-arbutin is ninth on our list, before the fragrance, but we do not state a percentage. We quote no study for Bidens pilosa extract, and hyaluronic acid sits after the fragrance in a small amount. Ascorbyl palmitate and tocopherol are antioxidants protecting the oils, not active vitamins. The pack's 'fades marks' wording is not a claim we make.
