What the science says
Glycerin — A humectant that draws water into the outermost skin layer and helps maintain skin softness and its moisture barrier. [1]
Sodium PCA — A natural component of the skin's natural moisturising factor (NMF) that binds water to keep the surface hydrated and supple. [2]
Hyaluronic acid — In studies on topical formulations, hyaluronic acid helped improve skin hydration and surface elasticity. [3]
The cited glycerin and NMF research looks at surface hydration of the skin, and the hyaluronic acid study used 0.1% creams; in this toner, organic rose water is the second ingredient and glycerin the third, while sodium hyaluronate is ingredient 10 of 12, in a small amount. Benzyl alcohol, ingredient 5, is used as a preservative, not as a fragrance. Lactic and citric acids at the end adjust the pH.
