What the science says
Glycerin — A humectant that draws water into the outermost skin layer and helps keep skin soft and supple. In research on glycerin, it supported the skin's moisture barrier and improved surface hydration. [1]
Humectants and skin comfort — Research on moisturisers found that humectants hydrate the outermost skin layer, while emollients keep the skin smooth and help break the dry-skin cycle. Results depend on the whole formula. [2]
The cited studies evaluated humectants in leave-on moisturisers, not in cleansers. In our wash-off foam, glycerin sits fourth on the list, working alongside organic rose flower water and mild plant-derived cleansing agents. Lactic acid is present in a small amount (position 7 of 14); we do not claim any exfoliating effect from it. Calendula and camomile flower extracts appear near the end of the list as gentle botanical extras.
