Plant-derived cleansing agents — Research on how shampoos are formulated explains that cleansing agents lift oil and dirt from the surface so they can be rinsed away; face cleansers use the same principle. [1]
Aloe vera — In research on topical formulations, aloe vera extract helped increase the water content of the outermost skin layer compared with an unsupplemented base. [2]
The cited research looks at how cleansing agents work and at aloe in leave-on creams, not at our cleanser. Our gel is rinse-off, and it uses organic aloe leaf juice (#1) instead of plain water as its base, with coconut-derived cleansing agents and humectants (glycerin #3, sodium PCA #6) so skin stays comfortable. Organic plum fruit extract sits at position 15, after the fragrance, in a small amount.
