What the science says

Salicylic acid — A hydroxy acid that loosens the bonds holding dead flakes on the skin's surface so they shed more evenly, helping smooth the look of the skin. [1]

Glycerin — A humectant that draws water into the outermost skin layer, keeping skin hydrated and soft so the spot area does not dry out and flake. [2]

The cited hydroxy acid research evaluates the exfoliating mechanism of hydroxy acids, including salicylic acid; in our formula, salicylic acid sits at position 10 (2% is printed on the pack). Kaolin clay sits third to absorb surface oil, while organic aloe juice (position 1) and argan oil (position 4) keep the area feeling comfortable. Charcoal powder and the fruit extracts (rose myrtle, gooseberry, blueberry) appear in small amounts (positions 21-26). Hydroxy acids can increase sun sensitivity; daily sunscreen is advised.
