What the research says
The International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand on sodium bicarbonate (Grgic et al., 2021) is an expert-panel narrative review of the literature in healthy men and women, athletes and recreational exercisers. It covers single doses and 3–7 day protocols of 0.2–0.5 g per kg of body mass. The panel reports improved performance in high-intensity efforts lasting 30 seconds to 12 minutes at these doses, notes that part of the benefit appears placebo-driven, and that gastrointestinal side effects are the most common, with enteric-coated capsules one way to reduce them. This product provides 3.6 g a day, which is lower than the reviewed doses for an adult.
