What the science says
Distearoylethyl dimonium chloride — In research on hair cosmetics, conditioning ingredients with a positive charge settle on the hair surface, smooth the cuticle and reduce friction and static, so hair detangles more easily and reflects more light. [1]
Glycerin — Research on glycerin found it improves hydration of the outermost skin layer, the skin's moisture barrier and its softness and suppleness, and that it is especially helpful in dry, cold conditions. [2]
The cited research looks at hair conditioning ingredients in general and at glycerin on skin, not at this conditioner. In our formula betaine and glycerin are third and fourth, with distearoylethyl dimonium chloride fifth. Mica is at position 7 and is optical only, a touch rather than a feature. Panthenol (position 9) and hydrolysed wheat protein (position 13) come after the fragrance, so they are small amounts and we make no claim for them. The citrus oils are fragrance; rinse thoroughly.
