What the science says
Panthenol (provitamin B5) — After 7 days, skin that received dexpanthenol (panthenol) held more water in its outermost layer and lost less water than skin that received the base alone. [1]
Glycerin — Research on glycerin found it improves hydration of the outermost skin layer, the skin's moisture barrier and its softness and suppleness, and that it is especially helpful in dry, cold conditions. [2]
The cited research was done on skin, not hair, and not on this dry shampoo. Alcohol denat and distarch phosphate are the first and third ingredients and do the cleansing and oil-absorbing work; glycerin is fifth. Panthenol (position 8), sarcosine, echinacea and rhodiola extracts come after the fragrance, so they are small amounts and we quote no study for them. Shake well before each use, as the starch naturally settles.
