What the science says
Glycerin — A humectant that improves hydration of the outermost skin layer and helps maintain the skin's softness and suppleness. [1]
Emollients and humectants — Research on moisturisers found that emollients keep the skin smooth and break the dry-skin cycle, while humectants hydrate the outermost skin layer. [2]
Sodium PCA and humectants — Research on the skin's natural moisturising factor (NMF), a mix of small water-binding molecules, found that it helps the outermost layer hold water; sodium PCA is a water-binding molecule of this kind. [3]
Sunflower seed oil and glycerin sit 2nd and 3rd in the formula, with cocoa seed butter at 10th and wild mango kernel butter at 16th. Sodium hyaluronate is at position 22 in a small amount; lactic acid at position 24 adjusts pH. Sea buckthorn, cloudberry and blueberry extracts are present in small amounts and we claim no visible effect from them. Contains declared fragrance allergens (benzyl alcohol, coumarin, vanillin, linalool, pinene); coumarin is a known fragrance allergen.

Which of the two scents — and what differs on the label
Both hand creams share one formula. Only the fragrance changes, and the fragrance changes which allergens have to be declared:
- Woody Amber & Leather — this one. Atlas cedar and patchouli over amber, with the leather note coming from coumarin and vanillin. Declared: Benzyl Alcohol, Vanillin, Linalyl Acetate, Linalool, Coumarin, Pinene. It is the only one of the two that contains coumarin, which is a common enough contact allergen to be worth knowing about.
- Spices & Sandalwood — juniper and cedar over sandalwood, with lavender underneath. Declared: Benzyl Alcohol, Linalyl Acetate, Beta-Caryophyllene, Pinene, Limonene, Linalool. No coumarin — but it does contain limonene and lavender oil, which this one does not.
Neither is the safe option in the abstract; they are two different allergen profiles, and which one suits you depends on what you react to. If you react to neither, pick by smell.
