So what does turmeric actually do?
We are not allowed to tell you, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The EU Register of nutrition and health claims contains no authorised wording for turmeric or curcumin, so any sentence a seller writes about joints, digestion or inflammation is one the regulator has not approved.
What we can print is the number: 600 mg of whole turmeric root powder a capsule, with 33 mg of curcumin naturally in it.
Is this the same as a 95% curcumin extract?
No. This is whole turmeric root, ground rather than concentrated — 33 mg of curcumin comes from the 600 mg of root powder itself, at roughly 5.5%, not from a standardised extract. If you are after a 95% curcuminoid extract, that is a different product.
Why is there black pepper extract in it?
The capsule carries 5 mg of black pepper fruit extract, standardised to 95% piperine — 4.8 mg of piperine a capsule, printed on the label. We state only the amount; the EU Register authorises no wording for piperine either, so nothing is claimed for it.
Why does the label warn about anticoagulant medication?
Because that is printed on the label as a caution: speak to a doctor before use if you take anticoagulant medication, and the product is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Why does turmeric stain?
The pigment that gives turmeric its colour marks skin, fabric and surfaces easily. Handle the capsules with dry hands.
Is it vegan?
Yes. The capsule shell is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and nothing in the ingredient list comes from an animal.
