So what does the black elderberry extract actually do?
We are not allowed to tell you, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The EU Register of nutrition and health claims contains no authorised wording for elderberry extract, so any sentence a seller writes about immunity or cold season is one the regulator has not approved.
What we can print is the number: 100 mg of black elderberry extract per daily dose of two gummies. The two nutrients that do have authorised wording, vitamin C and zinc, are in the table above with their sentences.
Why is vitamin C at 112 % and not 100 %?
Because 90 mg is what the recipe carries per daily dose, and that happens to be 112 % of the reference value. The label prints the figure as it is; we have not rounded it up or down.
Why is zinc only at 75 %?
Because 7.5 mg is what the recipe carries, and that is 75 % of the reference value — well above the 15 % needed for the wording to apply at all, just not the full 100 %.
Is it vegan?
Yes. The gummy is set with pectin instead of gelatine and glazed with carnauba wax. Nothing in the ingredient list comes from an animal, and the product carries no allergen labelling under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.
Why does it warn about a laxative effect?
Because the sweetness comes from maltitol, erythritol and sorbitol, which are sugar alcohols. Every label on a product sweetened this way carries that warning. Two gummies a day is the recommended intake and it must not be exceeded.
Do you have a laboratory analysis for this batch?
Not one we hold on file. We do not invent a laboratory or a report number for a product we have not had independently analysed. What we can give you is the batch number and best-before date printed on the base of the tin, and the manufacturer's own address.
