What the research says
A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study included healthy, moderately physically active volunteers who took spirulina at 42 mg per kg of body weight a day for 15 days before an eccentric exercise test. Muscle torque, range of motion, perceived discomfort and blood markers of muscle damage did not differ significantly between spirulina and placebo. The dose was scaled to body weight, whereas this product provides a fixed 3,000 mg a day.
A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study included 120 healthy adults aged 60 to 75 who took 3.5 g a day of silicon-enriched spirulina tablets for 6 months. In the group as a whole, no measured vascular parameter differed from placebo; changes in blood pressure and pulse wave velocity were reported only in a subgroup with high-normal values. The tablets were a special enriched preparation, not plain spirulina like this product.
