So what does glucosamine actually do?
We are not allowed to tell you, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The EU Register of nutrition and health claims contains no authorised wording for glucosamine — an application specifically about joint cartilage was refused by the European Commission in 2013 because the evidence did not show a cause-and-effect relationship.
What we can print is the number: 1,500 mg of glucosamine sulfate 2KCl a day, 85.3 % of the capsule by weight. Beyond that, this page says nothing about what it does.
Why 85.3 % and not 100 %?
Because a capsule needs a shell and something to stop the powder caking, and the label prints both: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose as the coating agent, magnesium stearate as the anti-caking agent. 85.3 % is the glucosamine sulfate 2KCl itself.
Is it vegan or vegetarian?
Neither. The label lists the glucosamine as coming from crustaceans; the capsule shell itself is not animal-derived, but the ingredient inside it is.
Is it safe if I have a shellfish allergy?
