What the science says

Lactic acid — Research on hydroxy acids indicates that lactic acid helps loosen the bonds between dead flakes on the skin's surface so they shed more evenly, encouraging a smoother-looking texture. [1]

Glycerin — A humectant that draws water into the outermost skin layer. Research indicates that glycerin improves surface hydration and supports the skin's moisture barrier. [2]

Aloe vera — In studies comparing topical formulations, aloe vera extract helped increase the water content of the outermost skin layer compared with an unsupplemented base. [3]

The cited studies evaluated lactic acid, glycerin and aloe vera on their own, not these products. Organic aloe leaf juice is the first ingredient of the Pore Purifying Clay Mask; glycerin and sodium PCA sit in the upper half of all three lists. Lactic acid is position 9 in both the wash and the mask, for gentle surface smoothing; it does not replace daytime sun protection. Mate, Iceland moss, lichen, juniper callus and charcoal powder sit in the lower half of the lists and we quote no studies for them. Zinc PCA is in the moisturiser; we make no sebum or blemish claim for it.

Your routine

  1. Morning and evening: massage PURIVA™ Purifying Face Wash onto damp skin, lather gently and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  2. Morning and evening: smooth a pea-sized amount of PURIVA™ Blemish Care Moisturiser evenly over face and neck.
  3. Once or twice weekly: apply a smooth layer of PURIVA™ Pore Purifying Clay Mask to clean skin, leave for 5–10 minutes, then rinse and follow with moisturiser.
  4. Always follow with sunscreen during the daytime.
