What the science says
Bakuchiol — In lab skin models bakuchiol behaved very much like retinol. In a 12-week study of 0.5% bakuchiol cream against 0.5% retinol cream, both significantly reduced wrinkle surface area and the look of dark spots, with no statistical difference between them; retinol users reported more flaking and stinging. In a 12-week facial-use study, lines and wrinkles, dark spots, elasticity and firmness all looked significantly better. [1][2]
Jojoba seed oil — Research describes jojoba 'oil' as a liquid wax made of long-chain esters, widely used in moisturisers and sunscreens for skin feel and softness. [3]
The cited bakuchiol studies used 0.5% bakuchiol creams; we do not know how our serum compares, since bakuchiol sits seventh in an oil base of organic jojoba, rosehip and evening primrose oils. Tocopherol (position 8) is an antioxidant protecting the oils. Blueberry seed oil and the scent ingredients come after the fragrance, so they are small amounts. We quote no study on our serum and make no claim about sun sensitivity.
