What the science says
Emollient cream base — Research on moisturising ingredients notes that emollients help keep skin smooth, while humectants hydrate the outermost skin layer. Results depend on the whole formula and on regular use. [1]
Glycerin — A humectant that draws water into the outermost skin layer to maintain softness and suppleness, so skin does not feel tight. [2]
The cited research looks at emollients and glycerin in general; it did not test our scrub. Here kaolin (ingredient 9) and volcanic sand (ingredient 10) do the polishing, which is purely physical, in a base of hydrogenated castor oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride and glycerin. Lactic acid is ingredient 20 of 26, in a small amount, there to balance the pH; we do not claim an AHA peel from it. Four organic berry extracts come after the fragrance, in small amounts.
