What the science says
Coconut-derived surfactants — In research on shampoos, cleansing agents (surfactants) lifted oil and dirt from scalp and hair; it was not a test of this wash, but the same kind of cleansing agent does the work here. [1]
The cited research is about cleansing agents in shampoos, not about this wash. Here, sodium coco-sulfate, sodium cocoamphoacetate, cocamidopropyl betaine and coco-glucoside form the cleansing base, with betaine as ingredient 5. Organic quince fruit extract is ingredient 11, after the fragrance, in a small amount, and we quote no study for it. Benzyl alcohol is part of the preservative system and the one declared fragrance allergen.

Which of the four scents — and the difference that matters
All four share one formula and differ only in the fragrance. But the fragrances are not equivalent on the label, and that is the thing worth knowing before you buy:
- Ginger & Smoky Cardamom — this one. Warm and spiced, the least sweet of the warm options. One declared fragrance allergen: Benzyl Alcohol.
- Patchouli & Amber Vanilla — the sweeter warm scent. Also one: Benzyl Alcohol.
- Peppermint & Dark Cedar — cool and dry. Also one: Benzyl Alcohol.
- Grapefruit — bright citrus, and the outlier: seven declared allergens, because the scent is built on citrus essential oils.
