What the science says
Glycolic acid — Research on hydroxy acids indicates that they loosen the bonds between dead flakes on the skin's surface so they shed more evenly, revealing a smoother look. Using hydroxy acids can increase sun sensitivity, making daily sunscreen essential. [1]
Glycerin — In research on skin moisturisation, glycerin improved the hydration level of the outermost skin layer and supported the skin's moisture barrier. [2]
The cited research looks at hydroxy acids in general; it did not test our toner. In this liquid toner glycolic acid is the second ingredient, balanced by potassium hydroxide, and we print no percentage. Phenethyl alcohol is there as part of the preservative system and carries a faint floral note of its own; there is no added perfume. Glycolic acid can make skin more sensitive to the sun, so use sunscreen every day.
